Malaysia does not issue apostilles

Malaysia is not a party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. The Hague Conference on Private International Law lists 130 contracting parties as at 30 June 2026, and Malaysia is not among them. Indonesia and Singapore are.

So if a university, employer or authority abroad asks you for an apostille on a Malaysian document, there is no apostille to get. What they actually need is the full legalisation chain, ending with a stamp from their own embassy in Kuala Lumpur. That chain is what we run.

The legalisation chain, in order

Every stamp depends on the one before it. This is the order a Malaysian document has to follow before another country will accept it.

Issuing authority or notary public

The document is verified at source, or certified as a true copy by a notary public.

The relevant ministry

Education certificates go through the education authorities. Other documents go through the ministry that governs them.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The consular division at Wisma Putra in Putrajaya legalises the document for use abroad.

The destination embassy

The embassy or consulate of the country the document is going to adds the final stamp, in Kuala Lumpur.

Asked most often

Can I get an apostille on my Malaysian document?

No. Malaysia is not a contracting party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, so no Malaysian authority issues apostilles. Documents going abroad need the full legalisation chain instead, finishing at the destination country embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

What do you need from me to start?

Clear scans of the document, and the country it is going to. That is enough for us to tell you which steps apply, what it costs and how long it takes.

Do I have to come to your office?

You can, and you are welcome to. Our office is at Ativo Plaza in Bandar Sri Damansara. Most clients send scans first and courier the originals to us afterwards.

How long does legalisation take?

It depends on how many of the four steps your document needs and on the embassy involved. We give you a timeline for your specific document before we submit, rather than quoting an average that may not apply to you.

Can you attest a degree from a foreign university?

Yes. We handle attestation and endorsement of education certificates issued by universities in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.

Do you handle visas for companies as well as individuals?

Yes. Employers and agencies use us to process visas for staff and for their own clients, and we also manage ESD system submissions for companies hiring expatriates into Malaysia.
